Well, I think it would not be god if it was always the case, you're
right. But I have a feeling that when you are in the phone app, and you
click t search for a contact, it could be good to be already in the
research bar with the keyboard showed, because I guess you are always
gonna use this research in this case (not sure I am clear in what I
mean...)

  search field without clicking on the bouton

Status in address-book-app package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When I am in my contact app, and I need to search someone, I need to
  click on the icon "serach" first. Why is that? I think it would be
  better if the field was already accessible. When you search a contact
  from the phone app, it is anoying to have to clik on another button.
