Title:
Hungarian keyboard layout illogical/not ergonomic
Status in Canonical System Image:
Confirmed
Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Hungarian language has some specific characters, like á, é, í, ó, ö, ő, ú, ü, ű that can be opened up for typing by pressing/holding the typical a, e, i, o, u characters. To get the most frequent alternative of "a", one needs to keep "a" pressed for a short while, then the character choice list appears, where the most frequent alternative - "á" - is preselected, one just needs to let go, and the proper character will be typed. So this is the GOOD way, this is how the others should work, too.
Currently, the most frequent alternative for each of the typical characters above is:
a -> á (this is ok on the phone)
e -> é THIS IS CURRENTLY "3" ON THE PHONE
i -> í THIS IS CURRENTLY "8" ON THE PHONE
o -> ö THIS IS CURRENTLY 9
u -> ü THIS IS CURRENTLY "7"
There is a dedicated switch for numeric characters, so the current
layout is causing a significant overall delay in writing messages,
documents, etc.
