Well Debian has fixed it upstream so check if later versions of Ubuntu
are using the fixed packages, I suppose.

Title:
cupsd segfaults when hit with HUP by logrotate

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: cups

  Description: Ubuntu 9.10
  Release: 9.10

  cups:
    Installed: 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.1
    Candidate: 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.1
    Version table:
   *** 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.1 0
          500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com karmic-updates/main Packages
          500 http://security.ubuntu.com karmic-security/main Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
       1.4.1-5ubuntu2 0
          500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

cupsd would die every morning about the same time and need to be
restarted. Doing a search revealed this upstream bug from Debian. The
  trigger was logrotate.

My workaround was to change the force-reload in the logrotate config
  to restart.
