The patch is small and probably no problem applying it. The current
problem is that it hasn't been reviewed and accepted in upstream, ie
it's still open https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/127898/

  If I launch an app with QT_IM_MODULE=MaliitPhablet system-settings, every key is pressed twice.
  Pressing h - a - l - l -o - <space> gives me:
  'Hhaalllloo. '
