I added the line from comment 4 into the alsa-base.conf file, rebooted
and everything is the same, can't get it working.

Bug description:
  Happens on Linux Mint 17.1 (Ubuntu 14.04). Linux kernel is 3.19 in
  order to get the touchpad working

  The external microphone connected to the combo jack of this laptop
  doesn't work, the output does work.
