Message #127476
[Bug 1529828] Re: System freeze when using LibreOffice Impress
I am perfectly aware that my BIOS is out-of-date and this is a
conscious decision. First of all, according to changelog, this BIOS
update only implements code for uEFI security vulnerabilities, so the
chance that anything in regard to this bug report will improve is
relatively small. Additionally, a lot of users report problems after
updating. Eventual update would also prohibit me from unlocking the
BIOS, which I may need in the future.
As much as I would like to help improving Ubuntu, I will not upgrade the
BIOS and risk overall stability of my system to confirm whether the
freeze still happens. Sorry that I cannot be of more help.
Hope you will understand.

Title:
System freeze when using LibreOffice Impress
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Happens when selecting not-so-large chunks of formatted text. Makes
Impress completely unusable.
At first, everything just slows down a lot and LibreOffice loses a lot
of responsiveness. At this point, I managed to close Impress once. But
shortly after (matter of several seconds), the whole system is
rendered unresponsive. Mouse cursor doesn't move (maybe a bit, in
intervals), I cannot switch to tty by ctrl+alt+Fx, I can't do anything
but force shutdown.
