VLC crashes when trying to open DVD iso file

Bug description:
Binary package hint: vlc
When attempting to play some DVD iso files, VLC crashes. The same DVD
iso files play properly under mplayer.
Problem:
When trying to play a DVD which has been backed up to an iso file, VLC crashes at start-up. The following output is displayed at the command line:
