Title:
Mounting of FAT32 partition doesn't lists filenames and directores
with international latin charactares properly
Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: util-linux
Even with in the present day with a recent (K)ubuntu installation, a
fresh clean formatted Lucid Lynx install, an average user cannot use
his FAT32 partition if the filenames and directories have
international latin characters (accentuations, etc.)
1. Open Dolphin
2. Click on the HD partition with FAT32
3. Directories and filenames with accentuations and other non-english marks are unreadable
Average user can't find out a solution.
Actually the solution is simple, I just copied the fstab entry for
/dev/fd0 (which has a utf8 option) for /dev/fat32diskdevice.
But still in this present day, Ubuntu cannot easily detect and
correctly configure the mounting for recognizing international latin
characters like ã á í ó.
Definately a showstopper for a potential user switching from FAT32
systems to Ubuntu, since the person cannot read correctly his/her
files, nor can he/she read the files/directories.
