Title:
  login ignoring /etc/environment

Status in “shadow” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  If global variables are set in /etc/environment these settings are
  ignored loging in. Assume /etc/environmet holding proxy informations:

  ftp_proxy=http://proxy:8080
  http_proxy=http://proxy:8080
  https_proxy=http://proxy:8080

  I'd assume these information exported in an users shell:

  # export
  [...]
  export ftp_proxy=http://proxy:8080
  export http_proxy=http://proxy:8080
  export https_proxy=http://proxy:8080

  Since short this isn't the case any more. Settings in /etc/environmet
  are just ignored (or read, but not exported).
