[Bug 1395220] Re: Displaylink slow graphic performance on Ubuntu 14.04
Igor Santos, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/optiplex-755/drivers an update to your BIOS is available (A22). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.
Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Displaylink slow graphic performance on Ubuntu 14.04
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I'm currently trying to use an AOC e1649Fwu screen on my Ubuntu work
box. It's a DisplayLink screen, and i'm using a slightly modified
version of this script to have it on after it's plugged in:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DisplayLink/displaylink.sh
I've however found that performance (of my whole system) is severely
degraded when using the screen. Within Windows, the device work really
well, however the monitor connected via the adapter is a little bit
slow (caused by USB 2.0 bandwidth?) - but whilst using Ubuntu with the
adapter, my whole system is slow, and specifically in this machine,
barely usable.
The performance issue is most noticeable with any Unity animations
such as opening the launcher or dash, moving screens around.
Also, some graphic features are buggy / gone:
- auto-complete boxes of PHPStorm have disappeared - like if they had no content, there's only a line where they should be
- some Compiz plugins are not working, like the Enhanced Desktop Zoom - when I press win+scroll up to increase zoom, the cursor is gone but nothing is zoomed in. I have to win+scroll down to have the cursor back.
- also, sometimes I would see glitches in windows, like in Pidgin chat windows.
I've tried disabling window animations and Dash blur, but they didn't
help much as there's still a lot of animations throughout the system.
