I use this on many Debian systems now, I don't think there is a good
reason for Ubuntu to leave it out any more.

It was a bit flaky before but upstream were really helpful when a few of
us started testing it and giving them feedback and now it is stable and
fully supported.

It works well with the LogAnalyzer package too.

Title:
  please add mongo support again

Status in rsyslog package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

The ubuntu version of this package ships without mongodb support

mongo now appears to be in trusty so it would be possible to enable
the compile of the rsyslog-mongo package

I did complete testing of rsyslog + mongodb + loganalyzer in Debian
wheezy-backports and it all worked (using 7.4.4-1 with a couple of
  patches cherry picked from upstream)

The latest 7.4.8-1 in sid today now has the same patches from upstream
  to work reliably with mongodb
