[Bug 1414468] Re: Unity GUI does not properly remember the state of PPTP/VPN connection when it goes down

BTW - I failed to mention. "ifconfig" does not show "ppp" interface and
there is no pppd daemon running. But the GUI just does not co-operate.
It has somehow lost sync with the state of the system.

Title:
Unity GUI does not properly remember the state of PPTP/VPN connection
  when it goes down

Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  1. Start a PPTP connection using the GUI (first create a new connection and enter all the information)
  2. Once the connection is UP everything is good.
  3. Connection times out after some time (because our PPTP server forcibly times out connections)
  4. Unity GUI still thinks that PPTP connection is up and won't let you start another one or let you disconnect the current one.
  5. You can log out and log in - but the problem will still persist.
  6. You have to reboot the machine to make the GUI start the connection again.

I think this is "critical" usability bug.

While you guys are at it fixing this one, the PPTP configuration
dialog has an "export" button. That button also does not work. The
export operation gets an error after you select a file to save the
  PPTP configuration into.

Ubuntu version 14.10 with latest updates as of 25th Jan, 2015.
