[Bug 1124777] Re: Fan runs constantly with kernel 3.2.0-36 and higher

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Title:
Fan runs constantly with kernel 3.2.0-36 and higher

Bug description:
Using ubuntu 12.04. Recently, I have started to notice that the fan on
my laptop runs CONSTANTLY. This has never been an issue for me before
(been using 12.04 since release). Investigating the issue, I have
discovered that when running kernel 3.2.0-35 or lower, the fan runs
only intermittently if at all. But when running 3.2.0-36 or 3.2.0-37
(the latest release today), the fan runs constantly, even for minimal
  computing tasks.

It appears that a power-regression has been introduced into the
kernel. Any chance this is fixable so that 12.04 can run fan-free
  again?
