netbooks/thinkpad-l-series-laptops/thinkpad-l412 an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.39). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

  Visual garbage in gutter between screens (multiple monitors)

Bug description:
  I see visible garbage in gutter area between screens (using multiple
  monitors of different height).

  It is not visible on screenshot (Screenshot from 2014-04-22
  12:45:02.png), but actually visible on screen of second monitor
  (Screenshot from 2014-04-22 12:45:02.png).

  There is gutter area between screens, I don't know if it's feature or
  bug, but second monitor shows part of first monitor's image. Width of
  gutter is a few pixels. In upper area of gutter, where there's no
  corresponding parts of first screen's image, there is visible garbage.
