[Bug 1323231] Re: Ubuntu freezes completly and a power button restart is needed

Miguel de Freitas Fonseca, thank you for taking the time to report this
and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, the Ubuntu Kernel PPA
and Firefox nightly are not software packages provided by the official
Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support
or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of
the software package. Thanks!

Title:
Ubuntu freezes completly and a power button restart is needed

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
It is the second time I report this bug!

I'm using a fresh install of Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 64 bits.

   I have a desktop HP dual-core 2,8 Ghz with a ATI X1600 with 512 MB
  and 2 GB RAM.

I have zswap enable in the Kernel using the 3.14-4 version downloaded from Kernel Mianline Ubuntu PPA.
I reduced the swapiness to 5 and I have a 4GB swap partition enable and working.
I had Firefox Nightly version 32.0a1 open with three tabs, Vuze Torrent program and playing Mahjongg.

I also had the terminal open and because this bug happens VERY often, I was cheking the RAM available.
I had, after using the comand "sudo sync && sudo echo 3 | sudo tee /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches", around 600 MB free RAM available when the PC freezed completly!!

A power button restart is allways needed when this happens!
And, as I described above, it happens VERY often!!

After much search, finding lots os users with this porblem, I've come
to "descover" that using this comands:

   - sudo update-rc.d ondemand disable
   and then, doing:

   - sudo update-rc.d ondemand enable

Minimizes the problem, and sometimes, I'm able to use the PC for 24 Hours or more with no problem!
But, sometimes, even after I executed this command, the PC freezes again and a power button restart is necessary to resolve the issue!

Like I wote the first time I reported this bug, this situation started to happen in my machine since the launch of 11.04 Natty!
Up until 10.10 Maverick, nothing like this ever happended!

   Please solve this issue!

If you need adicional information, tell me how to get it and I will
  suply it!

   I think that's all.
