[Bug 1324361] Re: Screen blank after resuming from suspend

Josh, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-
support/product/optiplex-360/drivers an update to your computer's buggy
and outdated BIOS is available (A07). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
       Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

Title:
  Screen blank after resuming from suspend

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I can successfully suspend my Ubuntu session. After hitting the power
  button on my desktop to wake up, the computer and monitor turn back on
  ok, but the screen comes up blank. The mouse is present and can move,
  but there is nothing to interact with. I also cannot switch to other
  terminal modes with Ctrl-Alt-F2, etc. The only way to recover is to
  hard boot. I tried booting with both S1 and S3 power management modes
  set in the bios; S1 does not suspend at all (gives errors) and S3
  suspends but does not wake up properly as described.

  I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome Shell 3.12.1, but the issue
  persists with standard Unity Ubuntu as well. I have dual monitors with
  an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS rev 3 PCI express adapter using nouveau
  drivers. I am running full disk encryption; home folder is not
  encrypted.

  Any advise is much appreciated.
