[Bug 1335682] Re: dual monitor display issues nouveau and xfce
tbrookwell@xxxxxxxxx, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better. As per
http://www.asus.com/supportonly/A8S-X/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1001). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?
If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.
Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
dual monitor display issues nouveau and xfce
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I right now am trying xfce as I have an old nvidia card. I have a
geforce 5200fx. This card has issues with any advanced grapics
handling at all. The newest nvidia drivers dont work for it. I have
tried to load the drivers, and they crash me out to the black screen
with the x icon. I tried to set the xorg.conf file for my second
monitor, and for no apparent reason it ignores the settings I have
entered. I tried to find monitor.conf, and lightdm monitor.conf and
neither exist. I tried a new front end that was a little easier on my
machine to see if it would load. For no apparent reason the machine
refuses to acknowledge that I have a second monitor, and I want to ass
a virtual resolution so that it can be used. Nouveau docs give no
steps, and the only thing I get in aranbdr, is a refrence to VGA-1 and
TV1. Which is odd because my card does not have a T.V. out. It does
have a DVI out which is shows as disabled. At this point the fact that
not only will x not recognize my second monitor, but that it shows a
tv output leaves me to assume that there is a bug with X not being
able to detect my second monitor, and also not allowing me to make any
manual changes to the xconfig file.
