[Bug 1371347] Re: nouveau E[Xorg[966]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0001
Jérôme, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:
apport-collect -p xorg 1371347
Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.
As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
nouveau E[Xorg[966]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0001
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
After the fresh install, I properly saw the boot progress with the
plymouth Xubuntu theme up to a step where the screen has no more the
progress image but a odd screen content which doesn't represent
anything (from my knowledges).
Next, I could get a virtual console (tty1) after many attempts of key
strokes (CTRL-ALT-F1).
Each ~10-30 seconds I get a console message in this screen like :
"nouveau E[Xorg[966]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0001 [Xorg[966]]"
I achieved to log in and execute 'sudo initctl stop lightdm'.
The 'ps axf' command showed that X was still running.
I first tried the command "sudo kill 966" with no success.
Then I executed the command "sudo kill -KILL 966".
Finally, I decided to install the proprietary driver with the command
"sudo apt-get install nvidia-current".
I reboot and the problem disappeared.
