This appears to be a problem with a locally installed init script,
/etc/init.d/showfsck.  As a workaround for this problem, you can either
remove the script, or add an LSB header to it declaring proper init
script dependencies, and then resume the upgrade with 'sudo dpkg
--configure -a && sudo apt-get -f install && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade'.
