Title:
  backlight doesn't change but the graphical indicator shows it changing
  (dell 17r)

Bug description:
  I have a dell inspiron 17r 7220 running Ubuntu 12.04
  (3.2.0-35-generic).

  I can press the Fn+F4 and F5 keys to control the brightness backlight
  and see the graphical indicator change as I press the keys but the
  actual brightness doesn't change. I can also change the setting via
  System Settings > Brightness and Lock but that doesn't change the
  brightness either.
