yup, the problem is that the background turns black. I guess it is
because something wrong in Desktopstage.qml, maybe
ApplicationWindow.qml, because the ApplicationManager gets nothing when
no application is running.

  close all applications make the background become a black page

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  when i close the dash,  the background turns  black  before dash
  restart. and if the dash can't restart anymore, the background keep a
  black page until i open another application.
