Title:
  X.Org causes RANDOM REBOOTS on x64 linux kernel

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  I already asked a question on AskUbuntu but I'm reporting it as a bug
  as suggested by moderators.

  I get lots of hard reboots when the xserver is supposed to do "something" (that's why I call it random), especially when scrolling a pdf (2-4 scrolls will suffice). For example, as I'm submitting this bug, my system rebooted twice: the first time as I clicked on "Yes, log me in", the second one as I highlighted some words with the cursor. I also get reboots while pressing F2 to rename a file (just before the box with highlighted text appears), and also while opening/closing a tab on any browser (right before doing it).
  It could really reboot on ANYTHING.

  Here are some clues:

  1. If I log into the system and don't do anything, the system is
  stable and running until I start using it.

  2. I'm running a mainstream kernel, but it doesn't matter. A saucy
  live cd and even a natty live cd show the same bug.

  3. It doesn't matter which desktop environment is running. Ubuntu,
  Kubuntu and Xubuntu are all showing the same problem.

  4. It doesn't matter which graphic driver is running: nouveau, nvidia
  and mesa are all affected.

  5. System logs don't show anything, they stop before the crash and
  restart at boot.

  6. A linux i386 (32 bits) kernel DOES NOT SHOW THIS PROBLEM.

  My motherboard is an Asus A8R-MVP upgraded to the latest BIOS
  available and my GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT. I already tested my
  RAM for 3 hours, tested GPU temperature, bought a new PSU and SATA
  cables, ran SMART tests, but my hardware seems absolutely fine.

  Also, these are the parameters I've set in /etc/default/grub:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nohz=off ipv6.disable=1
  enable_mtrr_cleanup mtrr_spare_reg_nr=1 pata_ali.atapi_dma=1
  iommu=force"

  I'll try to attach anything that could be useful, but so far my system
  thinks everything is fine...

  Please, feel free to ask any additional info.
