that seems to be fixed/works with current trunk, if you still have issue
feel free to open a new bug but please include the actual error you are
getting

  Can't make the project in a build dir

Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  cmake is instended to separate the source from the built files, but
  it's currently not possible to make the project in a builddir.

  To reproduce:
  mkdir builddir
  cd builddir
  cmake ..
  make <- fails
