Bug description:
  Tried to configure audio using "Sound Preferences". The driver
  initially showed in the window but then it disappeared. Rebooting is
  needed to have it reappear. But it disappears again as soon as I try
  to configure it.

  I ran the following command *after* the driver had disappeared from
  the Sound Prefs window. Evidently, Alsa still knows it's there.

  $ aplay -l

  As far as I can tell, all the kernel modules are loaded.

  Using the 9.10 release - fresh install, no upgrade. Have had no
  problems with earlier releases (did not use 8.10 or 9.04).
