Update, this morning I selected Pre-release update in Software sources
on my 15.10 install in Virtualbox, and after doing the partial update
the animation works when the launcher is hidden.

Unity version is 7.3.2 on both installs (raw metal and virtual).

Bug description:
  When the launcher is hidden and one minimizes an application window,
  the icon of that application shows up for a moment, hinting where is
  locatad. This doesn't happen after updating to 15.04.
