[Bug 426135] Re: Fax-by-internet integrated in Ubuntu

It might be possible to do this by finding out what format they submit
it in.

On the other hand, is this still important to you in 2015?

Title:
  Fax-by-internet integrated in Ubuntu

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
There exist some proprietary solutions which make the fax service very
  convenient:

  1) Install proprietary plugin, so that you have a fax printer installed in the "print" menu
  2) If you want to fax a document choose "print" -> "fax printer"
  3) add telephone number
  4) fax is sent by internet connection to a fax server. This fax servers deliver the fax to the recipient
  5) when fax delivered, get back a report (usually by email), so that you can print the fax report.

There is no comparable fax integration in ubuntu. I'm missing this
  feature (integrated fax-by-internet functionality).

Wouldn't it make sense to program an API so that different fax servers can offer this fax service?
Wouldn't it make sense if Canonical would offer such a service? I would even pay for that (5 €-Cent per page)?
