  Xorg freeze after changing display settings

Bug description:
  After changing duplicate monitors to separate monitors then back
  again, Ubuntu freezes. Shutting the laptop lid (this was done on
  battery power) solves this issue, but instead of it returning to where
  the user was, it logs the user out, closing any applications and
  losing data.
