Title:
after lucid upgrade: have to wait several minutes for crypted root to
come up
Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: initramfs-tools
I upgraded to Karmic and used it without any problems but when
upgrading to Lucid yesterday a heap of problems appeared. Thanks to
all the great resources here and elsewhere on the net I have been able
to solve most of these today but one very annoying one has remained
and I can't seem to find a solution: During boot process, after the
message "Waiting for encrypted source device" appears I have to wait
more than 3 minutes before I am asked to enter the passphrase for my
encrypted root partition (before upgrading to Lucid there was no such
delay).
According to bootchart initramfs' cryptroot script falls asleep for
over 3 minutes before the crypted root comes up and askpass is called
to ask for the passphrase.
Here are some changes I have had to make to the standard installation
due to other errors after upgrade: I had to deactive framebuffer and
plymouth splash during boot because when using the framebuffer even
after waiting for 3 minutes I could not enter the passphrase and
continue to boot because normal keypresses were not registered by the
system (only special keys such as ESC, ALT-combinations etc. which
changed between splash and framebuffer text mode). This is also why
cryptsetups' askpass is being used for passphrase retrieval and not
plymouth. Furthermore, I kept getting an error message about
/scripts/functions missing whenever running update-initramfs and I had
to edit /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/cryptroot to remove
that error as described here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=576488 . After that, no more errors appeared
when running update-initramfs but I still had to wait for 3+ minutes
for the root device to come up when booting.
I am including /etc/fstab, /etc/crypttab, dmesg and the latest
bootchart image .
