[Bug 1488899] [NEW] USB keyboard not recognized Meizu 4

Public bug reported:

expected:
using Meizu Ubuntu phone on screen keyboard
plug in usb keyboard
type on keyboard
letters appear on phone

what happened instead:
no letters appear, even after I restart, even after I wait for a while, even if I plug in or don't plug in the power supply to OTP cable

I have an external keyboard and OTP cable which are recognized by my android Nexus 7.
I am trying to use them with my Meizu 4.

I think I have got it to work once. I can't remember.
I have left the keyboard in for a while, and it doesn't work.

OS: Ubuntu 15.04(r3)
Last updated 6/30/15
(no updates available)

I am just a normal user, haven't tried to become a developer user.

I've searched for the word keyboard in the settings. Don't see anything.
I've searched in apps. Don't see anything helpful.

I'm happy to debug, but not sure where to start.

I've searched for USB in the bugs reported, and don't see it.

I've looked through some questions:

I typed xinput in the terminal and got 'command not found'
I typed 'dmesg' in the terminal and got: 'dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted'

Please let me know how to help you debug this problem.
