Bug description:
  Binary package hint: language-pack-en-base

There are no way to install only needed English translations (for
example just British English) - language-pack-en installs all the
translations of English variants (en_GB, en_AU, en_CA, etc).

This is an annoying problem, because too many unneeded locales appear
in login prompt (gdm login screen) and users are confused by this -
they don't know which English variant to choose from about 15 (en_HK,
  en_DK, en_IN, en_ZW, en_NZ, en_PH, en_US, en_GB, en_AU, en_SG, en_BW,
  en_ZA, en_CA, en_IE) ! :(

I think this situation is not correct - almost no one will need
English British, English Australian, English South African, English
Singapore and all other 10 translations (look above) *at* *the* *same*
  *time*.

Users will need only one of them at the majority of cases.

Some other translations variants of the same language are already in separate language packs, for example Greek:
language-pack-el-base (translations for language Greek, Modern)
language-pack-grc-base (translations for language Greek, Ancient)

I think language-pack-en should be split at least to several language
packs according to geographical regions, for example for en_AU
(Australian) and en_NZ (New Zealand) translations same language pack
could be used, because Australia and New Zealand are neighbor
  countries.
