Tunes
Heya,
Sorry I wasn't able to make it last night, like a number of folk got held up
at one of the shindings - enjoyable enough but not conducive to rehearsal
time.
I took a couple of notes from Monday night's rehearsal;
** With or Without You - U2 **
Came together ok, need to slow tempo down - might be worth taking the chance
to listen to it on You Tube to get a sense of the feel.
** Don't Stop Belevin' - Glee Version **
Also worked nicely but suggest we standardise on the Glee version (You Tube
will find it) rather than the original one by Journey - they only real
difference is the Glee version takes out a couple of instrumental bars here
and there, this will be no bad thing in respect to audience enjoyment I
suspect. Key of E.
** Hallelujia - Leonard Cohen Version **
Again came together well.
We played a few other tunes earlier that worked well but I didn't note them
down :(
What we did in Orlando that seemed to work well was get a Wiki page together
with songs, keys and who would like to play what - we can then coalesce this
into a set list/running order for Friday night.
This level of formality might seem a little odd, but imho gives us a good
balance between us enjoying ourselves as players versus actually providing a
fun show to those listening. Spinal Tap-esque free form jazz improvisations
tick the former box, but not the latter.
Other thing I'd like to flag - couple of people had flagged playing one or two
Jazz standards, possibly instrumental - I reckon this could be fun - thoughts
?
Cheers,
Hugh
