[Bug 1231128] Re: Web browser on phone cannot resolve *.local addresses
Confirmed. It doesn’t seem to be a problem with webbrowser-app itself
though, because resolving a .local address works in webbrowser-app on my
desktop. More likely a missing bit in the DNS stack as pointed out by
Stuart.

Title:
Web browser on phone cannot resolve *.local addresses
Status in Web Browser App:
Triaged
Status in “webbrowser-app” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Viewing http://faith.local/ in the browser on the phone says it cannot
be found (faith is the name of this machine). Resolving this address
from an Ubuntu laptop works fine. Viewing http://<ip address>/ works
fine. I suspect the phone is missing whichever bit in the DNS stack
knows how to resolve zeroconf addresses.
