Status in Ubuntu Manual: Fix Released
Bug description:
This bug is regarding Manual version 0.1
==Chapter 2==
=Section 2.5 (Linux)=
--------------------------------
1. "Linux, a member of the Unix family, is one of the oldest type of computer operating
systems, dating back to the 1970s. Originating long before Windows...."
These lines imply that that Linux dates back to the 1970s. However, it dates back to the 90s. It's UNIX that goes back to the 70s. Also, can UNIX be written in all caps or with small caps (the way it si trademarked and branded)? Of course, Windows is older than Linux, but not UNIX. I think a clarification is needed here.
2. "....websites like Facebook and
Google are run on *nix servers."
Since this is a manual for beginners, I think using terms *nix would too intimidating. Maybe we could use "UNIX-like".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=2.7 Is Ubuntu right for you?=
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Off the topic, but in the sentence "I suggest taking the following into account", the "I" can be replaced by a "we".
2. "if you absolutely
cannot live without the latest and greatest Adobe master suite, then either consider
dual-booting or Ubuntu isn’t for you."
Again, newcomers will be unfamiliar with the concept of dual-booting. We can change the language here to "Use 2 Operating Systems" or something on those lines.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll extend this report further as I go along. The manual is a great idea!!!!
Regards
Parry
