And coredumps... nobody ever remember coredumps?

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your interest in joining Bug-Control and helping make
Ubuntu better. I do have some to say here, and I will start with some
generic notes.

* Item (5) above requests that you suggest an Importance for any bugs
that do not have the field set. You have not done so.

* I also notice that all these bugs are assigned to yourself. Are you
*fixing* the bugs? If you are not, you should not have assigned yourself
to the bugs -- specifically, see item (2) above, on Bugs/Assignment [1],
where it is written:

"Bug assignment in Launchpad is most commonly used to document that a
team or person in Launchpad is planning on fixing the bug i.e. when the
bug's status is "In Progress". Subsequently, for most packages you
should not assign the bug to a person or team."

So: (1) you should not assign a person -- including yourself -- or a
team to a bug unless you are *fixing* the bug;

(2) if a person is *fixing* the bug, then this person should assign the
bug to h(er|is)self;

(3) an assigned bug should have the Status INPROGRESS.

Generically speaking, one should *never* assign a bug to another person
(or to a team).

* Did you repeat the OP's steps? It is always good to know that a bug
was repeatable, and we should indicate it in the comments. I did, on
Maverick, and added it to the bug.

* You should have verified what version of Ubuntu (and software-centre)
the OP is running.

Same as above -- if you confirm a bug, please add a comment stating what
you did.

Same as above.

I am completely baffled here. What is it that is a bug here? The user
used something -- not described -- to do 'house cleaning', and ended up
deleting from disk what should not have been deleted. As a result the
user got an unstable system.

This is not a bug, but a support request. Looking at the
'DpkgTerminalLog.gz', attached, we can see at the end:

Processing triggers for software-center ...
file does not
exist: /usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/apt/__init__.py
file does not
exist: /usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/db/__init__.py
file does not
exist: /usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/view/__init__.py
file does not
exist: /usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/view/widgets/__init__.py
pycentral: pycentral pkginstall: error byte-compiling files (50)
pycentral pkginstall: error byte-compiling files (50)
dpkg: error processing software-center (--unpack):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 1

So, among whatever else, some files installed by software-centre also
got deleted.

As such, I am transforming this bug into a question, and will propose a
possible bypass for software-center *only* (since we do not know what
else may have been broken).

Did you reproduce this issue? If so, what did you find?

Given all the above, I believe you are not yet ready for BugControl.
Please triage more bugs, read the documentation and -- extremely
suggested -- join us at #ubuntu-bugs, on irc.freenode.net. Usually there
is at least a few of us online, ready to help and answer questions.

-1.

Cheers,
