Re: VMWare Kernel Module Bug Support Inquiry

Dear Ubuntu Kernel team / Ubuntu Bug Control:

I am e-mailing to inquire about the status of VMWare products (ex.
VMWare Workstation, VMWare Player) bug support on Launchpad.
Currently, three linux (Ubuntu) reports have been filed with kernel
oops bugs using VMWare products:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1070837
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1071891
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1072170

However, since VMWare Player has been removed from the repositories:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vmware-player

It is unclear to me if Ubuntu provides fixes for bugs in VMWare kernel
modules, or would the reporters need to seek support from VMWare
directly. For example, Fedora does not provide this type of support:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=861837

What do you think?

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter and I look
forward to your response.

Hi Christopher,

We don't provide fixes for any kernels other than Ubuntu kernels. Any bugs specific to VMWare would have to be addressed by VMWare directly. However, if a bug happens within the Ubuntu kernel, and VMWare is the application, that would be something we would want to address.
