[Question #44829]: WEP and wifi status/LED on 701 running Ubuntu EEE 8.04.01
New question #44829 on Ubuntu Eee:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eee/+question/44829
Upgraded (well, re-installed from 8.04) my 701 to UbuntuEEE 8.04.1 yesterday and have noticed a few things. First is that I can't seem to connect to a certain wifi router using WEP. I could connect from the same place with 8.04, but not with 8.04.1. Though at home I can connect to my router via WPA so I know that wifi does work.
Next up is that the entire wifi status is a bit up the creek. More often than not when I use Fn+F2 I get the Wireless LAN OFF message, even if it's already off. When this happens I've noticed that the wifi LED briefly goes off and comes back. Meanwhile in /var/log/messages I get something that to me indicates that the OS has 'found' a wifi interface:
Sep 11 11:12:37 pingu kernel: [ 541.510523] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:01:00.0 disabled

Sep 11 11:12:40 pingu kernel: [ 543.919449] MadWifi: ath_attach: Switching rfkill capability off.
Sep 11 11:12:40 pingu kernel: [ 544.058256] wifi0: Atheros AR2425 chip found (MAC 14.2, PHY SChip 7.0, Radio 10.2)

So it looks like at the end of this little operation the wifi is still on, hence the LED being on and the wifi0 interface still showing up as being up and plumbed in.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Cheers,
J
