Re: [Question #44713]: Ubuntu eee 8.04.1 - Linksys wrt54g (Problem)
Question #44713 on Ubuntu Eee changed:

Status: Open => Answered
Charles proposed the following answer:
I use the Linksys WRT54G on my eee 901. I'm not running Ubuntu eee 8.04.1, but rather Ubuntu eee 8.04 with adamm's custom kernel, so it's almost identical except for the Netbook remix interface, which I don't care for. I'm also using elmurato's script which adds correct functionality to the hotkeys, with OSD, etc.
Even though wifi is supposed to be enabled on the 901 with the custom kernel, I had to get the native Ralink driver and use that instead. Next, I had to enable SSID broadcast on the WRT54G. Disabling the broadcast disables connectivity. Shouldn't work that way, but it does. I'm using WPA, no problem. Uncheck roaming in Network Manager. One thing that irritates me no end is that it won't automatically connect to the network after booting up. I've added the Network Selector applet to the panel. Click, and it shows your network interfaces: eth0 (ehternet) and ra0 (wireless). It says ra0 is "active", yet I have no connectivity until I actually select it. 30 seconds later, I have a connection.
