I encountered this earlier today also.  While on battery power with "dim
screen while idle"(the default) checked in power management options,
after the idle timer is triggered and the screen dims the next action
returns brightness  to 100% rather than the pre idle level.

Bug description:
I was using the eee to read a large pdf file, with the screen brightness set to the lowest setting. When plugged in, everything worked fine, but when I switched to battery power the screen brightness would go up to the maximum setting at random times. It would keep doing that again and again despite my lowering it. It's not really such an important issue but I thought I should let you guys know, in case this is a bug.
