Byakko confirmed that the question is solved:
Nevermind. Turns out when I changed the theme in the first place to
something other than human-notebook, it was a little delayed to change
the panel's colour. This time round I waited for a bit (after switching
the theme to 'human' instead of 'human-notebook') and its back to normal
:D
