I just installed 8.10 on my eee1000, like this:

Ok here are my steps to get everything but bluetooth toggle to work:

1. Install Intrepid, internet will only work with wired connection.
2. Install Adams Kernel as per these instructions: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=46649 (including eeepc-config)
3. Install version 1.8 of the wireless driver for the 901/1000 http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=43998
4. Install ACPI scripts following these instructions: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=49081&p=1
5. Edit /etc/modules to look like this:

fuse
lp
eeepc-acpi
eepc-linux
asus-eee
pciehp pciehp_debug=1 pciehp_force=1
