I've put together a deb of xserver-xorg-input-synaptic with the patch from: http://www.helsinki.fi/~rantalai/synaptics/
which adds to synclient the option Xrandr=n, where n maps to the xrandr --orientation option:
0: normal
1: right
2: left
3: inverted

It's working on my 8.04.1 on a 901 -- and it works very nicely with maximus and the rest of the eee ubuntu packages. Is there a way to attach it here for folks?
