I have an Eee PC 901 and I have been trying to install Ubuntu-Eee 8.04.1 without success till now.

The problem is taht Grup somehow is not working properly. Here is what I did:

I moved the Live CD of Ubuntu on a 2GB USB stick and booted it. Then I followed the installation instructions and chose manual partitioning. I deleted my previous Win XP installation on the 4GB SSD and created on it the / (root) partition for Ubunutu. I did the same for the 8GB SSD and used it as /home. I did not create any swap. Both partitions I made primary. (by the way is that necessary ?)

In the next step I decided to install the bootloader on hd0,0 which should be the 4GB SSD. After the installation I get this Grub error 21. But I do not understand why. This is now about my fifth try to install Ubuntu and again this problem is coming up. I really getting depressed.

I can boot the Live CD from my USB stick but it wont allow me to change the setting in menu.lst on the internal SSD. But they should be correct anyway. Look here:

### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST

(hd0,0) should be the 4GB SSD and I also installed the Bootloader on that drive, so why is it not working?

Please help me. I do not want to go back to Windows.
