I found that even with max. volume set in volume applet or by the
function keys, the eee pc was not loud. Running alsamixer in the console
suggested the volume was set to maximum. Right-clicking on the volume
applet, selecting "Open Volume Control", and increasing the *line out*
resulted in the volume increasing. It seems like on the eee pc, PCM and
Line  Out are inverted?

This is using ubuntu 8.10 with the array.org eeepc-lean kernel.

Bug description:
I am running Ubuntu-eee 8.04.01 on an eee pc 901. When adjusting the volume using either the volume slider on the taskbar, or the Fn hotkeys, the maximum volume is fairly loud, but not that loud.

However, if the volume is turned up as loud as possible on the slider, and then I press the Fn+F7 mute key to mute the sound, and then un-mute it the sound is SIGNIFICANTLY louder.

It behaves as though the volume slider/hotkeys have their maximum set to only 70% or so of the actual hardware volume, but when un-muting it actually goes to 100%. 

Can anyone  else reproduce this bug on their 901, or on other eee models?

I would be happy to investigate a workaround for this, if somebody could point me to some resources about how volume levels are managed?

So not a serious problem at all, but a bit annoying. Thanks for all the great work, Ubuntu-eee developers!
