Re: [Ubuntugnome-qa] [Bug: 1184451] Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

I've encountered this bug before as well, but only on my VM install of Ubuntu GNOME. I presumed it was a VM issue and generally ignore it. My native installs are on very high specced machines with lots of extra resources, so if it is a resource issue my desktop probably wouln't see it.

Most often, my VM's are just running a web browser, text editor, and command line. I have seen the freeze happen with only a command line running VIM open.

Hi Ali, all,

I'm also affected by this bug from time to time. Funny thing is that sometimes by suspending and resuming (closing and opening the laptop lid) I get the system back. I normally have access to the Ctrl+Alt+F1~F5 terminals and they operate normally. Sometimes a gnome shell restart solves it.

My system is a HP Elitebook with 4Gb RAM, a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz x4 and Intel Ivybridge Graphics.

uname outputs: Linux eb-aap 3.11.0-14-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 17:04:55 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

As a side note, I frequently use a dual-monitor setup and the brightness controls do not work in gnome shell 3.10 and used to work in 3.8.

Regards

António Pinto
