Running ubuntu 14.04 with gnome shell installed, and Nvidia GeForece GT 520 graphics card, 64bit.

Ubuntu + gnome shell installed is 'not' the same as Ubuntu GNOME :)

There is a reason why there are many official flavors of Ubuntu. While the result perhaps 'looks' the same, it is not really the very same.

A large update took place this week that included the 3.13.0-19 update.  However, I was never prompted to accept any file config file changes, which I saw on another 14.04 machine?

After rebooting received the login screen.  Entered password, but the desktop does not start, it just shows the login background page with no login box, active mouse, etc.

Ctl+Alt+f1 gets me to a terminal session.  I can launch the default desktop with startx.

Only thing I can see is in .xsession-errors:
Script for ibus started at run_im.
Script for auto started at run_im.
Script for default started at run_im.
init: dbus pre-start process (2285) terminated with status 2

For what its worth, if I select the ubuntu option at login as opposed to gnome I get the same results.

Any thoughts on what I should look at?

Yes, kindly test the 'latest' daily build?

The latest one is: 20140326
Many thanks and appreciate your help and support :)
