Hi,

Hi,

Before I go to bed, allow me to reply this email :)

I was wondering if we should setup a similar page like https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases. I realised that when replying to bugs that have been reported against an EOL release, I use the canned response from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Release_has_reached_End_of_Life_.28EOL.29 and it points to the above link.

No.
Ubuntu GNOME is an official flavour of Ubuntu and if anyone wishes to check which releases we do have and currently support, they simply need to visit our Download Page:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/GetUbuntuGNOME

We can duplicate the information on:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME

If you ask me, we don't need to duplicate any information but if you feel it is helpful, I don't mind.

But please, big no to create something like the releases page. This will lead to unnecessary problems and confusions. All official flavours follow the 'same' schedule of Ubuntu.

As for the response, you don't really - IMHO - to copy-paste the same response ;)
For me, I always like to come up with my own still valid and useful way to reply or respond.

If it is a must for you to follow that page, you can tweak/update your response to match what we have in Ubuntu GNOME.

Some considerations on why I am proposing this is:

1. Ubuntu GNOME LTS releases are 3 years, not 5 years as mentioned at the bottom of the page

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/GetUbuntuGNOME

2. EOL releases should start at 13.04 as this was an official release.

We have 'only' two supported versions:
14.04 which is LTS
14.10 which is Non-LTS

3. Current list of releases should drop 10.04 to 12.04.5 LTS

10.04.4 LTS for servers is still supported until April, 2015.

4. Do we have an announcement mailing list? If not, the announcement list should point to the main mailing list.

Please check 'Contact Us' page on our Wiki, it has all our official channels.

5. Old releases can point to the Ubuntu GNOME old releases page if we have one.

I'm not sure if we have a general cycle blueprint, which is essentially what things that need to always be updated before, during and after a cycle is complete, that we can add the above task to if accepted.

We have blueprints on Launchpad.
However, I had no time yet to write any for VV cycle :(

Every time I want to do it, something comes up and I get busy with. I'll try to have a meeting with the team OR send an email about that later, not now.

THanks
