I am experiencing the same problem.  When I try and open a wav file the
program crashes.

I followed Kamal's advice and used the latest fldigi version from the
ubuntu-hams ppa.

Here are my specs:

  fldigi crashes when opening sound files for playback (wav, flac)

Status in “fldigi” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Selecting menu "File"->"Audio"->"Playback" in fldigi results in a
  crash. I tried .flac and .wav files.
