 Well I just installed XSane from Ubuntu Mate apt-get

xsane_0.999-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb

and it wells fine on my PC on Ubuntu Mate 16.04. I had thought I had 
upgraded but apparently not.

 You might try asking the XSane people. There may be a problem with the 
configuration file or something like that. In any case the LIDE210 at 
600 or less works on my PC.

May be you set it for a higher resolution?
