Title page proposal
Hi!
Got aware of this project being interested in proposals for the title
page 2 days ago. I just joined team and list and added

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-manual/Screenshots?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=manual_cover_thorwil_dark.png
to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-manual/Screenshots
The layout is based on the margins found in the content (used the
screenshot of the inside to rough this in).
My goals were to avoid the repetition of the word "Ubuntu" as far as
sensible and to provide clear weighting to quickly get across what this
is about.
Given the desire for an image of a Lynx, there's a high probability that
any such image will attract attention before all other elements.
Especially if it contains eyes. My strategy to avoid a conflict between
image and title is to put them close together, tightly aligned, with the
image coming first to allow the eyes to travel on a simple path.
I have to admit that the lynx predates this work. I _might_ replace it
later with something made to fit. Maybe with something that isn't a
lynx, but has more to do with this project, if inspiration and time
align.
I was tempted to leave the Circle-of-Friends out, but I guess that
wouldn't fly :)
So the page format is US letter. What is the rationale behind this? Did
you think about a users desire to print the manual (on DIN A4 in most
countries)?
I briefly looked on the wiki, but found no mention of the measurements.
If my still rough proposal should be accepted, I'd like to know:
- Page margins (as a plus: how they have been determined).
- Spacing between headings and content, especially layout of chapter
headings.
- Font(s) used.
- Font sizes and measurements of the baseline grid.
- Colors other than black used throughout the manual.
