I've installed TeX Live 2012 from upstream and it works well. TeX
Live 2011 (from upstream) is sufficient for compiling our manual.
There is also a new TeX Live PPA that has updated packages that work
for our manual. I believe these packages will come standard with
Ubuntu 12.10, but I'm not sure.
